This is War. We are Soldiers. Learn to Stand in Faith

Falling for Lies

Over the years, God has usually trained me for spiritual warfare while I was in the middle of a raging battle. At times, the opposition was so intense that I felt exhausted, defeated, and abandoned. In those moments, Jesus taught me to stand up in His full authority and declare my victory. With a trembling voice, I whispered into the darkness, “In the full authority of Jesus Christ I declare victory. I belong to Him. You have to go.” I didn’t know what else to say, but I was learning how to battle my strong enemy.

We Were Soldiers (2002)

As I shared last week, our enemy isn’t too strong for Jesus. But, since he is a liar and usurper, he will work relentlessly to mislead us. He knows that when believers stand in Jesus’s authority, he will be defeated.

I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.

Matthew 28:18 NLT

Standing in Faith

In the days and seasons of intense battle against my invisible enemy, I describe my position as “standing in faith.” Yes, it’s prayer, but don’t imagine me silent and kneeling. Instead, picture me walking back and forth in my living room, speaking out loud.

Since some who read this blog post may be new to spiritual warfare, I’ve included a prayer from Mark I. Bubeck’s The Adversary (1970). When I need to stand in faith, I often pray his words. You can purchase the book on Here is another resource (a printable sheet) for warfare praying from Mark Bubeck.

Dear Lord and heavenly Father. Humbly I approach the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of promise, hope, love and grace. I come before You in the merit, the holiness, and the righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ . . . .

I praise You that I am united with the Lord Jesus Christ in all of His life and work. By faith I desire to enter into the victory of the incarnation of my Lord today. I appropriate by faith the victory He achieved for me in living His sinlessly perfect life as a human being . . . I invite Him to live His victory in me today. Thank you, Lord Jesus Christ, that You experienced all temptations I experience and yet never sinned. Thank You for defeating in Your incarnation all temptations and attacks that Satan and his kingdom were able to address against You. I claim Your victory over Satan as my victory today.

I enter by faith in to the mighty work of the crucifixion of my Lord. Thank You that through the blood of Jesus Christ there is not only cleansing from the penalty and guilt of sin but moment-by-moment cleansing, permitting me to fellowship with You. Thank You that the work of the cross brings Satan’s work to nothing. Deliberately and by faith, I bring all of the work of my Lord on Calvary directly against Satan’s workings in my life.

I enter by faith into the full power and authority of my Lord’s resurrection . . . . The enemy is defeated in my life because I am united with the Lord Jesus Christ in the victory of His resurrection.

By faith I appropriate and enter today into my union with the Lord Jesus Christ in His ascension. I rejoice that my Lord displayed openly His victory over all principalities and powers as He ascended into glory through the very realm of the prince of the power of the air. I rejoice that He is seated in victory far above all principalities and powers and that I am seated there with Him. Because of my union with my Savior, I affirm my full authority and position of victory over Satan and all of his kingdom of darkness . . . .

Read Part 1 and Part 2 in this series on spiritual warfare. Next week, I’ll finish it with Part 3.

Stay Rooted

Stay rooted in Jesus’s authority as you fight. He fights for us and He has already overcome our enemy. I’d love to hear from you if you are in a battle so that we can encourage one another.

Roots that grow deep into Jesus. Lives built on Him.

Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

Colossians 2:7 NLT

Daily, the power of stories amazes me–moves me, shapes me–an ordinary wife, mom, teacher, writer, Jesus-follower.

I am battling on behalf of a loved one regarding their illegal substance use. It’s been a long battle, and at times I am weary of it! My faith is strong that there is a battle going on that I cannot see, and all is on His timeframe. I just need to remind myself of that and not become impatient.

Jayne Walters

Lori, thanks for sharing your battle. I admire your perseverance and faith. And, thanks for the reminder that there is a battle going on that I cannot see. I prayed for you today.
